Adult Hospitalist Program

What is a Hospitalist?

A hospitalist is a dedicated physician who works primarily in the hospital to provide the highest quality of care to hospitalized patients.

Adult hospitalists are internal and family medicine specialists, who focus primarily on inpatient care. Children at Emanuel are provided Pediatric Hospitalist care from physicians affiliated with Children’s Hospital Central California in Madera, California.

How does the Emanuel Medical Center Adult Hospitalist program work?

The adult hospitalists at Emanuel are part of Primary Critical Care Medical Group, a hospitalist medical group.

  • During your stay at the hospital you will receive most of your care from one hospitalist.
  • At night, on weekends, and on certain weekdays you may be seen by another member of the group or by a Physician Assistant.
  • Your hospitalist physician will make daily bedside visits, and communicate with other EMC specialists as needed.

What are the benefits of care from a Hospitalist?

Hospitalist physicians are highly trained professionals who are experienced in hospital medicine. Hospitalists are readily available to Emanuel patients, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week allowing the physician to provide the focused attention required to coordinate the best possible patient care. The hospitalist monitors your progress and also communicates with you, your family and your primary care physician.

Hospitalists are familiar with the hospital staff and specialist physicians, as well as with the hospital’s policies and procedures. This ensures that the highest quality of care will be provided to each patient.

What happens when I go home?

When you are discharged, the hospitalist will provide your personal practitioner with a summary of your treatment. At any time during your stay, the hospitalist may also communicate with your primary care physician regarding the coordination of your care. If you do not have a primary care physician, your hospitalist and the EMC discharge planner will refer you to a local clinic for follow up care.

What about my physician bill?

Your hospitalist physician bill for professional services will come from the regional administrative office of the Primary Critical Care Medical Group in North Hollywood, California.

Questions regarding your bill can be directed to the Primary Critical Care Call Center at (888) 761-3600.
