Turlock - Emanuel Medical Center will offer in May 2009 a variety of health education classes and programs for residents of Turlock and nearby communities.

 

All programs are offered in meeting rooms or facilities at the hospital located at 825 Delbon Avenue in Turlock. For more information on any program, call the Education Department at (209) 664-2580 unless otherwise noted.

 

Blood Pressure Checks - FREE – Education Training Room – East Wing

May 12 and 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. – No reservation or fee required.  Retired nurse members of Emanuel Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary offer blood pressure checks.

 

Childbirth Preparation – Two-Day Weekend Childbirth Preparation – Conference Room C – East Wing

May 2 and 3 - Saturday, May 2^nd from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 3^rd from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Preregistration and $40.00 fee required.  Prepare for the birth of your child by attending this two-day class.  This weekend class will focus on the relaxation and coping skills needed for labor and birth, the birth process, infant care, breastfeeding, Cesarean birth and post-partum care.  A tour of the Mary Stuart Rogers Birthing Center is included.  Class is limited to 12 couples.

 

CPR Training - For Healthcare Providers – Conference Room C – East Wing

May 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Preregistration and $40.00 fee required.  This class is intended for Healthcare Providers.  Class size is limited. 

 

CPR – Retraining for Healthcare Providers – Conference Rooms D&E – East Wing

May 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. - Preregistration and $35.00 fee required.  Requires knowledge of current AHA guidelines.  A copy of current CPR card must accompany registration.  Class size is limited.

Cancer Support Groups

Cancer in Your Life Support Group – FREE – Emanuel Medical Plaza – 880 E. Tuolumne Avenue, Conference Room - Call (209) 664-2434.  First and Third Friday of every month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Open to adult women and men who are new or recurring cancer patients, as well as those who have completed treatment.  

 

Caregiver Support Group – FREE – Emanuel Medical Plaza – 880 E. Tuolumne Avenue, Conference Room - Call (209) 664-2434.  First and Third Wednesday of every month from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  This support group is to learn ways to care for one’s self and offer support to others as the caregiver.             

 

Healing Paths – Writing Through Cancer Support Group – FREE – Emanuel Medical Plaza –  880 E. Tuolumne Avenue, Conference Room – Call (209) 664-2434 to register.  Second and Fourth Tuesday of every month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Open to all who are affected by cancer.  Join in the healing process of writing and journaling through cancer.  Professional writing skills not required.

 

 “Look Good…Feel Better” – FREE – Emanuel Medical Plaza – 880 E. Tuolumne Avenue, Conference Room - Call 1-800-227-2345.  Third Monday of every month from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  This program teaches beauty techniques to women who are actively undergoing cancer treatment, to help them combat the appearance related side effects of radiation and chemotherapy.

 

Monkey Business - FREE – Emanuel Medical Plaza – 880 E. Tuolumne Avenue, Conference Room - Call         (209) 664-2434 to register for the next workshop beginning June 2, 2009.  This cancer support group has been designed specifically for the emotional support of children, ages 5-12, whose loved one has cancer.  This group utilizes a variety of techniques to help families develop a platform to discuss the emotions surrounding cancer.  Class size is limited. This support group is held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for 8 weeks.  Preregistration required.  Call (209) 664-2434 for information or to preregister.

 

Nutrition Class - FREE – Emanuel Medical Plaza – 880 E. Tuolumne Avenue, Conference Room - Call (209) 664-2434 to register.  Begins Wednesday, April 29^th and continuing the last Wednesday of every month from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – NO Preregistration required.  The link between cancer and poor nutrition is one that is clearly established.  The goal of this nutrition class is to help all people learn how they can modify their current eating habits in a way that will improve their overall health.  Whether you are a cancer survivor or someone who just wants to learn to eat better, this is a class that will benefit you.  This class will be taught by registered dieticians.

 

Prostate Cancer Support Group - FREE – Emanuel Medical Plaza – 880 E. Tuolumne Avenue, Conference Room - Call (209) 664-2434 for information.  Begins Monday, May 11^th and continuing on the 2^nd Monday of every month from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  NO Preregistration required.  This cancer support group is designed for both the men who have a diagnosis of prostate cancer as well as their partners.  

 

Hospice Support Groups

Loss of Spouse Support Group – Call Hospice of Emanuel at (209) 664-2550 to Preregister

Support Group begins Tuesday, May 19 from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. and continues for seven consecutive Mondays.  For widows and widowers who have lost their spouse.  Preregistration required.  Suggested one time donation of $15.00. 

 

One-on-One Grief Support - FREE - 1850 Colorado Avenue – Hospice Office - Call Hospice of Emanuel at (209) 664-2550.  One-on-one grief support is offered by appointment only through Hospice of Emanuel.  There is no fee.  Call (209) 664-2550 to make an appointment.
