Reza Nazari, MD, Specializing in Interventional Cardiology joins Turlock Medical Group

August 06, 2009

Turlock, Interventional cardiologist Reza Nazari, MD, has completed the second of two cardiology fellowships in New York and joined the medical staff of Emanuel Medical Center and the practice of Turlock Heart and Vascular Institute in July 2009. Dr. Nazari will see patients for general and interventional cardiology and related procedures.

Dr. Nazari did his cardiology training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. During a three-year fellowship, he was involved in the management of a variety of cardiac patients including the critically ill, patients with a mechanical heart and those associated with a cardiac transplant. He continued on for another year of specialized interventional cardiology, in which he performed angioplasty on patients with acute coronary syndrome.

He is board certified in adult cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology, adult echocardiography and internal medicine and will take his interventional cardiology boards in October.

Dr. Nazari says that some new procedures offer less risk for patients with coronary artery disease. "Cardiac catheterization through the wrist (known as radial) is more convenient for patients," he explains. "It also has less risk of bleeding and allows the patient to become mobile sooner."

From 2002-05, Dr. Nazari did an internal medicine internship and residency at Albert Einstein where he gained experiences in the intensive care, critical care and emergency units of the college's 500-bed affiliate, Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center.

Dr. Nazari moved to the US in 2001 and worked as a research associate in molecular and cell biology research for the McGraw Medical Center-Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern. He is a 1996 graduate of Tehran University of Medical Science School of Medicine and had a general medicine private practice in Iran for four years.

Dr. Nazari moved to the area with his wife, Tannaz Ahmazi, DDS, this summer where she recently joined a dentistry practice in Modesto.

Turlock Heart and Vascular Institute is located at 2141 Colorado Ave.  Appointments can be made at (209) 634-2600.
