April 2007 Health Education Programs at Emanuel Medical Center

Turlock - Emanuel Medical Center will offer in April 2007 a variety of health education classes and programs for residents of Turlock and nearby communities.

 

All programs are offered in meeting rooms or facilities at the hospital located at 825 Delbon Avenue in Turlock. For more information on any program, call the Education Department at (209) 664-2580 unless otherwise noted.

 

Adolescents Grief Class – Education Training Room – East Wing – Call Hospice at (209) 664-2550.  Classes begin Tuesday, April 3rd 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. – Pre-Registration required and $15.00 donation.  For adolescents ages 13-18 who have experienced a loss. 

 

Adult General Grief and Education Support Group – Education Training Room – East Wing – Call Hospice at (209) 664-2550.  Classes begin Wednesday, April 25th 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Pre-Registration required and $15.00 donation.  For adults who have experienced a loss. 

 

Blood Pressure Checks - FREE – Education Training Room – East Wing.  April 10 & 24 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. – No reservation or fee required.  Retired nurse members of the Auxiliary of Emanuel offer blood pressure checks.

 

Childbirth Preparation Series (7 weeks) – Conference Room C - East Wing.  April 19, 26, May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Pre-Registration and $55.00 series fee required.  Prepare for the birth of your child by attending this 7- week series. Topics include physiology of labor, relaxation exercises, paced breathing, breast-feeding, infant care and safety and a tour of the Mary Stuart Rogers Birthing Center.  Class is limited to 15 couples. 

 

Childbirth Preparation – Two-Day Weekend Childbirth Preparation – Conference Room C – East Wing.  April 21 and 22 – Saturday, April 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 22nd from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Pre-Registration and $40.00 fee required.  Prepare for the birth of your child by attending this two-day class.  This weekend class will focus on the relaxation and coping skills needed for labor and birth, the birth process, infant care, breastfeeding, Cesarean birth and post-partum care.  A tour of the Mary Stuart Rogers Birthing Center is included.  Class is limited to 15 couples.

 

Children’s Grief Class - Education Training Room – East Wing – Call Hospice at (209) 664-2550.  Classes begin Tuesday, April 3rd 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.  Pre-Registration required and $15.00 donation.  For children ages 6-12 who have experienced a loss. 

 

CPR - Retraining for Healthcare Providers – Conference Room C – East Wing.  April 19 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Pre-Registration and $30.00 fee required.  Requires knowledge of current AHA guidelines.  A copy of current CPR card must accompany registration.  Class size is limited.

 

Childbirth “Spanish” One-Day Intensive Childbirth Preparation – Conference Rooms D&E – East Wing.  April 21 from 12 Noon to 4:00 p.m. – Pre-registration and $25.00 fee required.  This class is en Espanol and is designed for the Spanish speaking expectant families.  Class is limited to 15 couples.

 

Diabetes Basics – Conference Room C – East Wing

April 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon – BY PHYSICIAN REFERRAL ONLY – Pre-registration required.  Are you a new diabetic?  Learn what and when you should eat and how to monitor your blood sugar.  You will also learn what blood sugar numbers mean and other ways to control your blood sugar.

 

Living with Diabetes – Conference Rooms D&E – East Wing.  April 24 & 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. - Pre-Registration required.  $10 per family per series or $5 per class.  Class 1:  Diagnosis, Principles of Nutrition, Eating out and Eating in, Treatment, Medications, Healthy Habits.  Class 2:  Acute and Chronic Complications, Glucose Monitoring and Considerations During Illness

 

Support Groups

Alzheimer’s Support Group, call Emanuel’s Education Department at (209) 664-2580 – Free.
