Legacy Circle Earns Nearly a Quarter of a Million Dollars in One Week
September 07, 2007
Turlock, CA - In just one short week, Legacy Circle, Emanuel Medical Center’s annual giving program is proud to announce they have raised nearly $250,000 – an impressive start to the goal of raising $1.2 million by the end of the ongoing six-week fund drive campaign for the Emanuel Cancer Endowment.
Thursday, September 6, 2007, was a celebration for the entire community as two teams, the Emanuel Employee Volunteers and the Community Volunteers, tallied the total number of pledges received, resulting in 333 pledges and $224,884 earned for the Emanuel Cancer Endowment.
“Having already raised one of the highest dollar amounts during the first week of any Legacy Circle fund drive, we are definitely off to an amazing start,” said Bill Gibbs, Fund Drive Chairman for the Community.
Efforts from team members like Linda Teixeira, affectionately known as the “rookie” by her fellow Emanuel Employee teammates, are part of making the Emanuel Cancer Endowment a reality.
As an employee of Emanuel Medical Center for the past 32 years, there is no doubt that Teixeira’s heart lies in serving her community. She has donated to Legacy Circle since it’s fruition six years ago, but this is Linda’s first year as an official volunteer - hence the nickname, “rookie.” She may be a “rookie” but she has already received 17 pledges in one week!
“When I learned of the Emanuel Cancer Endowment, it definitely pulled at my heart,” said Linda Teixeira. “I am a proud breast cancer survivor and know first-hand how important it is to have the best technology in the world, right here in Turlock. I knew I had to be a part of it.”
The Emanuel Cancer Endowment is a $4 million permanent fund that will generate hundreds of thousands of dollars every year for cancer services in Turlock. Services include outreach and prevention, early detection, support groups, genetic risk assessment, counseling and testing, clinical research, and participation in national clinical trials. These services and leading technology will only further the reputation of Emanuel Medical Center as one of the top-quality medical organizations in the Central Valley.
“The energy is definitely felt within the Emanuel Employee Volunteers and the Community Volunteers, which has infectiously spread throughout the entire community,” said Terri King, Fund Drive Chairman for the Employees. “We are all in this together and look forward to the upcoming week, as we hope to continue our efforts to further provide the very best patient care at Emanuel Medical Center.”
The community will come together again on Sunday, September 23, 2007 for the third annual On Broadway With Two Guys, a wine tasting and gourmet appetizer benefit sponsored by Stephen Backus and Ed Samo, one of Legacy Circle’s top producing Community Volunteer team owners. All proceeds from the event will go towards this year’s campaign for the Emanuel Cancer Endowment.
“Ed and I are looking forward to another great event,” said Backus, Community Fund Drive Team Owner. “We encourage everyone to come out for an evening of fun for a great cause.”
On Broadway With Two Guys is open to the general public and will be held at 153 South Broadway. Tickets are $45 a piece and can be purchased by calling (209) 667-8779.
