Week Two Brings Broken Records as Legacy Circle Raises Nearly $375,000

September 14, 2007

Turlock, CAWeek two of Legacy Circle, Emanuel Medical Center’s annual giving program continues to experience overwhelming support from the local community – having already received $372,966.

Thursday, September 13, 2007 was a day for broken records as two teams, Emanuel Employee Volunteers and the Community Volunteers, collectively raised nearly $100,000 more than what was raised at the end of week two during last year’s campaign!

“Everyone is coming together for the goal of raising $1.2 million during our ongoing six-week fund drive for the Emanuel Cancer Endowment,” said John Sigsbury, President and CEO of Emanuel Medical Center. “Every week we gather together and look forward to seeing how united and mighty our ‘little’ town can be.”

Upon receiving a total of 551 membership pledges from the local community and Emanuel employees, Legacy Circle team members find little mystery in the reasoning behind the overwhelming support.

“We have all been touched by cancer,” said Jennifer Larson, Board Chair for Emanuel Medical Center and former Legacy Circle Division Leader. “Whether it has affected us personally or through our loved ones, we have all seen its devastating path. This year’s campaign is personal for a lot of people, people who want to make sure we have the best and most complete cancer care in Turlock - and this endowment is part of the solution.”

Emanuel Cancer Endowment is a $4 million permanent fund that will generate hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer services in Turlock. Legacy Circle has committed to raising the initial $4 million to establish the endowment, but the fund will continue to grow as charitable gifts are donated for years to come. The Emanuel Cancer Endowment will provide services such as outreach and prevention, early detection, support groups, genetic risk assessment, counseling and testing, clinical research, and participation in national clinical trials. These services and leading technology will only further the reputation of Emanuel Medical Center as one of the top-quality medical organizations in the Central Valley.

Businesses at Mercantile Mall in Turlock will show their support for the Legacy Circle fund drive on September 28, 2007 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Java Jim’s Garden Café, A Beautiful Reflection, A Day to Remember, and Nor Cal Sports will be donating 20% of their day’s proceeds to Legacy Circle for the Emanuel Cancer Endowment.

“Many people, are surprised to hear I am participating in this year’s Legacy Circle fund drive campaign,” said Kerry Strickland, Owner of A Beautiful Reflection. “Having five children, a full-time job and a husband with a full-time job leaves us with little time for additional activities. But once I heard about the Emanuel Cancer Endowment, I knew I had to be a part of it. We should all do what we can to help others – and for me, I can’t think of a better way to do so than supporting the Emanuel Cancer Endowment.”

Mercantile Mall is located at 200 W Main Street (corner of Broadway and Main Street).
