Turlock - Emanuel Medical Center will offer in September 2006 a variety of health education classes and programs for residents of Turlock and nearby communities.

All programs are offered in meeting rooms or facilities at the hospital located at 825 Delbon Avenue in Turlock. For more information on any program, call the Education Department at (209) 664-2580 unless otherwise noted.

September 2006 programs, dates, reservations and fees requirements include:

Blood Pressure Checks - FREE - Education Training Room - East Wing
September 12 & 26 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. - No reservation or fee required
Retired nurse members of the Auxiliary of Emanuel offer blood pressure checks.

Car Seat Safety - FREE - Conference Room C - East Wing
September 19 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Pre-Registration required.  No fee.
Learn the correct way to use infant and convertible car safety seats, combination booster seats and booster seats.  Class is presented by the Turlock Fire Department's Seated for Safety instructor.

Childbirth Preparation - One-Day Intensive Childbirth Preparation - Conference Room C - East Wing
September 9 from 10:00 to 4:00 p.m. - Pre-Registration and $30.00 fee required.  Prepare for the birth of your child by attending this one-day class.  Topics include physiology of labor, relaxation exercises and paced breathing.  A tour of the Mary Stuart Rogers Birthing Center is included.  Class is limited to 15 couples.

Childbirth "Sibling" Preparation - Conference Room C - East Wing
September 20 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.- Pre-Registration and $15.00 / family fee.  This class is offered every other month and is designed to teach children how to be a big brother or sister and what to expect when a new baby is added to the family.  A tour of the Mary Stuart Rogers Birthing Center is included.

CPR - Retraining for Healthcare Providers - Conference Room C - East Wing
September 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., - Pre-Registration and $20.00 fee required.  Requires knowledge of current AHA guidelines.  A copy of current CPR card must accompany registration.  Class size is limited.

Diabetes Basics - Education Training Room - East Wing
September 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon - BY PHYSICIAN REFERRAL ONLY - Pre-registration required.  Are you a new diabetic?  Learn what and when you should eat and how to monitor your blood sugar.  You will also learn what blood sugar numbers mean and other ways to control your blood sugar.

Call Hospice of Emanuel to register - (209) 664-2550 - Pre-Registration and $15.00 fee required
Begins September 18 - Meets 1st & 3rd Mondays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
For widows and widowers who have lost their spouse.

Saturday - September 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Pre-Registration and $15.00 fee required.  For adults who want to make a Memory Book of their loved one.  Class is limited to 24 participants.
