Olympic Champion Peggy Fleming to Highlight 2007 Cancer Awareness Event

Turlock:  Emanuel Medical Center is pleased to announce that Olympic figure skating champion and breast cancer survivor Peggy Fleming will be the keynote speaker at the 2007 Cancer Awareness Event. The public is invited to this free event to be held Tuesday October 16th at the new Emanuel Medical Plaza in Turlock.

During the 1968 Winter Games, a young woman in a chartreuse dress stepped onto the ice and held America spellbound. Her program won her an Olympic Gold Medal. Since then her career as athlete, sports analyst and television personality has taken her around the world and into the hearts of millions. Thirty years after winning her Gold Medal, Peggy Fleming faced the greatest challenge of her life. In January of 1998 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Today, cancer survivor Peggy Fleming gives hope to millions of cancer patients as she shares her story of trial and triumph.

Please join Emanuel Medical Center for the 2007 Cancer Awareness Event on Tuesday, October 16th at the new Emanuel Medical Plaza, 880 E. Tuolumne Road.

Events include:

·        5:00 to 7:00 p.m. – Open house, hors d’oeuvres and tours of the Emanuel Medical Plaza facilities:
Stanford Emanuel Radiation Oncology Center
California Oncology of Turlock
Oasis Surgical

·        7:00 p.m. – Cancer Survivor March and Program with guest speaker Peggy Fleming.

The new 45,000 square-foot Emanuel Medical Plaza building includes the Stanford Emanuel Radiation Oncology Center, California Oncology of Turlock (medical oncology practice), Oasis Surgical (general surgery practice), and in the future a new Ruby E. Bergman Women’s Center.
