April 2008 Health Education Programs at Emanuel Medical Center

Turlock - Emanuel Medical Center will offer in April 2008 a variety of health education classes and programs for residents of Turlock and nearby communities.All programs are offered in meeting rooms or facilities at the hospital located at 825 Delbon Avenue in Turlock. For more information on any program, call the Education Department at (209) 664-2580 unless otherwise noted.
Blood Pressure Checks - FREE - Education Training Room - East Wing
April 8 and 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. - No reservation or fee required. Retired nurse members of Emanuel Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary offer blood pressure checks.
Childbirth Preparation - Two-Day Weekend Childbirth Preparation - Conference Room C - East Wing
April 12 and 13 - Saturday, April 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 13th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Preregistration and $40.00 fee required. Prepare for the birth of your child by attending this two-day class. This weekend class will focus on the relaxation and coping skills needed for labor and birth, the birth process, infant care, breastfeeding, Cesarean birth and post-partum care. A tour of the Mary Stuart Rogers Birthing Center is included. Class is limited to 12 couples.
Childbirth "Spanish" One-Day Intensive Childbirth Preparation - Conference Rooms D&E - East Wing
April 19 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. - Preregistration and $25.00 fee required. This class is en Espanol and is designed for the Spanish speaking expectant families. Class is limited to 12 couples.
CPR - Retraining for Healthcare Providers - Conference Room C - East Wing
April 10 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Preregistration and $30.00 fee required. Requires knowledge of current AHA guidelines. A copy of current CPR card must accompany registration. Class size is limited.
Diabetes Basics - Education Training Room - East Wing
April 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. - BY PHYSICIAN REFERRAL ONLY - Preregistration required. Are you a new diabetic? Learn what and when you should eat and how to monitor your blood sugar. You will also learn what blood sugar numbers mean and other ways to control your blood sugar.
Heartsaver CPR & First Aid - Conference Room C - East Wing
CPR - April 5 from 9:00 a.m. to12:30 p.m. First Aid - 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Preregistration and $60.00 fee required. This class is approved for daycare providers. Class size is limited.
Living with Diabetes - Conference Rooms D&E - East Wing
April 22 & 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. - Preregistration required. $10 per family per series or $5 per class
Class 1: Diagnosis, Principles of Nutrition, Eating out and Eating in, Treatment, Medications, Healthy Habits
Class 2: Acute and Chronic Complications, Glucose Monitoring and Considerations During Illness
Support Groups
Adult General Grief and Education Support Group - Education Training Room - East Wing - Call Hospice of Emanuel at (209) 664-2550
April 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For adults who have experienced a loss. Registration required, no fee, suggested donation of $15.00.
Breastfeeding Support Group - FREE - Meet in the lobby of the Hospital - NO Preregistration required. For questions, contact Debbie Garner, RN, BSN at (209) 664-2660
This new support group will meet every Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. No fee. This group is open to all pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Cancer in Your Life Support Group - FREE - Emanuel Medical Plaza - California Oncology - 880 E. Tuolumne Avenue, Suite 103 - Call (209) 669-8300
First and Third Friday of every month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Open to adult women and men who are new or recurring cancer patients, as well as those who have completed treatment.
Caring for the Caregiver Support Group - FREE - 1850 Colorado Avenue - New Hospice Office - Call Hospice of Emanuel at (209) 664-2550
April 28 at 7:00 p.m. No fee. A support group for caregivers. Come join others who are providing care to a loved one or friend. This group is also open to people who have a loved one in a Nursing Home.
