Gastroenterologist Opens Turlock Practice - Gurpreet Singh, MD

July 01, 2008

Turlock - Gurpreet Singh, MD, has opened an office as Central Valley Gastroenterology Associates, Inc., in Turlock after completing a rigorous gastroenterology fellowship at Seton Hall University, School of GME in South Orange, NJ.

The fellowship program is unique in that it includes training at three hospitals, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, NJ, St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark and the Liver Transplant Center at UMDNJ, also in Newark.

During the two-year fellowship, Dr. Singh was able to gain valuable skills training with several different gastroenterologists in the three hospitals. “Each attending used different techniques and instruments, so it was a unique experience,” he says.

He also was able to use some of the most advanced technologies for treating problems and diseases of the body’s gastrointestinal system. At St. Joseph’s and St. Michael’s hospitals, Dr. Singh and other physicians were among the first in the nation to be trained in new procedures.

“One of the newest procedures is called high resolution manometery,” Dr. Singh explains.” It’s a novel gastrointestinal diagnostic system that is more comfortable for the patient, takes less time and allows the physician to see problems in more detail than is usually possible. However, it is expensive equipment and it may be awhile before it’s widely available.”

Dr. Singh says he enjoys gastroenterology because of its complexity. “The good thing about it is it gives you the combination of medicine and surgery,” he says.

He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at Government Medical School in Amritsar, India. His internship was served at Atlantic City Medical Center in Atlantic City, NJ, which is affiliated with Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. In 2005, he completed the internal medicine residency program at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. It is affiliated with Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He is Board certified in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Singh says he is happy to be back in California, where he has family and spent some of his youth, after six years on the East Coast. He and his Norwegian-born wife, Manzinder, have two children, a three year old daughter and an infant son, who was born in late May. Manzinder is the office manager for the practice.

Central Valley Gastroenterology Associates, Inc. is located at 981 E. Tuolumne Road, Suite 106, in Turlock. Appointments can be made at (209) 656-6800.
