Dr. Fatemeh Pazouki Brings to Turlock a New OB-GYN Practice
August 11, 2008
Turlock - Fatemeh Pazouki, MD, brings a wide range of experience to her new Turlock obstetrics-gynecology practice in The Tower Health & Wellness Center and to Emanuel Medical Center where she has joined the medical staff.
She spent a year in private practice in her native Iran before moving to the United States ten years ago. She also worked for the World Health Organization and UNICEF, where she gained surgical experience.
Dr. Pazouki says she “knew from the beginning” that she wanted to be an Ob-Gyn. “In Iran there is a need for female Ob-Gyns,” she says. “I also like it because there is so much happiness in seeing babies being born. At the same time, you can do a lot of procedures and surgery that help the female population.”
Although she had completed medical school and residency training at the University of Iran Medical Sciences in 1994, Dr. Pazouki was required to undertake a second Ob-Gyn residency to practice medicine in the United States. This summer she completed that residency at Indiana University in Indianapolis and was honored with the American Assn. of Laparoscopic Surgery award and the 2008 Robert Roger award for continued excellence in gynecologic surgery. She also earned first place in the residency research project.
Dr. Pazouki trained in some new gynecological surgical technologies at the University of Indiana, including the DaVinci robotic system. It is used in pelvic surgery and for cancers, hysterectomies and other pelvic diseases.
“Compared to traditional laparoscopic devices, the robot gives surgeons more freedom to perform fine surgeries without large incisions,” Dr. Pazouki says. “These methods are minimally invasive, with small incisions, and the patient often can go home the same day. Patients are up and around in just three days, compared to open surgery where it may take weeks to recover. I hope we will be able to have our own robot here at Emanuel in the future.”
Dr. Pazouki speaks Farsi and Turkish and feels at home in Turlock because of its large Persian population. It’s also close to her family, who live in Turlock and the Bay Area. She and her husband have two children.
Dr. Pazouki’s office is located in The Tower Health & Wellness Center at 1801 Colorado Avenue, Suite 210. Appointments can be made at (209) 216-3570.
