Cancer Endowment Fundraising Ahead of Last Year's Pace
September 23, 2008
Turlock - Hundreds of community and employee volunteers raised nearly $125,000 last week to support Emanuel Medical Center’s cancer endowment, bringing the three-week fundraising total to $507,000.
That’s $15,000 more than volunteers raised at this time last year.
“Our volunteers and community members continue to do an incredible job supporting the hospital and the Emanuel Cancer Endowment,” said Shirley Pok, Vice President of Development. “It’s especially meaningful in a week like this, given all the crazy economic news.”
The volunteers are taking part in the hospital’s annual Legacy Circle fundraising campaign. This year’s goal for the six-week campaign is to raise $1.3 million toward the $4 million endowment. Last year the campaign raised just over $1 million.
When it’s fully funded, the Endowment will generate hundreds of thousands of dollars every year that will be used to support Emanuel’s cancer treatment services, paying for things like community education and cancer prevention programs, early detection and screening efforts, community support groups, clinical trials and research.
In week three, hospital employees raised $37,357 for the endowment, bringing their total up to $155,727. Community volunteers raised $87,300 during the week, increasing their total to $350,172.
Previous Legacy Circle campaigns have built the hospital’s Mary Stuart Rogers Birthing Center and its new state-of-the-art emergency department. The Emanuel Cancer Endowment is the first time Legacy Circle has raised money to fund a permanent endowment. The Legacy Circle Fund Drive ends Oct. 2.
