Meredith Baxter to Speak at Emanuel Medical Center Cancer Awareness Event

Turlock, Emanuel Medical Center is pleased to announce that star of film, television, stage and breast cancer survivor Meredith Baxter will be the keynote speaker at the 2008 Cancer Awareness Event. The public is invited to this free event to be held Thursday, October 23rd at the Emanuel Medical Plaza,    880 E. Tuolumne Road in Turlock.

 

In film, television, and on stage, Meredith Baxter is noted for her accessible portrayals of intelligent, independent women who struggle with the challenges before them.  She achieved success early in her career with a string of hit television series including Bridget Loves Bernie, the critically acclaimed drama Family, and most notably, the long-running and extremely popular Family Ties.  She then made a seamless transition to drama after seven years as one of America’s favorite sitcom stars, quickly becoming one of the most sought-after actors for television movies.

 

            A force behind the camera as well, Meredith Baxter formed her own production company to develop and produce her own material, and currently has several television projects in various stages of development.  She has served in the same capacity on a number of her movies for television, including My Breast, the true story of journalist Joyce Wadier’s successful battle with breast cancer; Betrayed: The Story of Three Women; Darkness Before Dawn; and The Long Journey Home.

 

            Ms. Baxter has devoted much of her time to speaking out on issues about which she is passionate.  For her work on My Breast, she received a special award for public awareness from the National Breast Cancer Coalition, and she is an active supporter of Planned Parenthood.

The 2008 Emanuel Cancer Awareness Event includes:

·        5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. – Open house, hors d’oeuvres and tours of the Emanuel Medical Plaza facilities including, Stanford Emanuel Radiation Oncology Center, California Oncology of Turlock and Oasis Surgical

·        7:00 p.m. – Cancer Survivor March and Program with guest speaker Meredith Baxter
