Turlock - Emanuel Medical Center will offer in February 2009 a variety of health education classes and programs for residents of Turlock and nearby communities.

 

All programs are offered in meeting rooms or facilities at the hospital located at 825 Delbon Avenue in Turlock. For more information on any program, call the Education Department at (209) 664-2580 unless otherwise noted.

 

Blood Pressure Checks - FREE – Education Training Room – East Wing

February 10 and 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. – No reservation or fee required.  Retired nurse members of Emanuel Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary offer blood pressure checks.

 

Childbirth Preparation – Two-Day Weekend Childbirth Preparation – Conference Room C – East Wing

February 7 and 8 - Saturday, February 7^th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 8^th from

1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Preregistration and $40.00 fee required.  Prepare for the birth of your child by attending this two-day class.  This weekend class will focus on the relaxation and coping skills needed for labor and birth, the birth process, infant care, breastfeeding, Cesarean birth and post-partum care.  A tour of the Mary Stuart Rogers Birthing Center is included.  Class is limited to 12 couples.

 

CPR Training - For Healthcare Providers – Conference Room C – East Wing

February 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., – Preregistration and $40.00 fee required.

This class is intended for Healthcare Providers.  Class size is limited. 

 

CPR – Retraining for Healthcare Providers – Conference Rooms D&E – East Wing

February 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. - Preregistration and $30.00 fee required.  Requires knowledge of current AHA guidelines.  A copy of current CPR card must accompany registration.  Class size is limited.

February 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  No fee.  Preregistration required.  Celebrate Heart Month!  Learn about the link between your diabetes and your heart health.

 

Support Groups

 

Breastfeeding Support Group – FREE - Check in at the information desk in the front lobby of the Hospital for meeting location – NO Preregistration required.  For questions, contact Debbie Garner, RN, BSN, IBCLC at (209) 664-2666

This support group will meet every Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.  No fee.  This group is open to all pregnant or breastfeeding women.

 

Loss of Spouse Support Group – Conference Room D&E – East Wing - Call Hospice of Emanuel at (209) 664-2550

For widows and widowers who have lost their spouse.  Classes begin Monday, February 23 from

6:00 – 7:30 p.m.  Preregistration required, no fee, suggested one time donation of $15.00. 

   

One-on-One Grief Support - FREE - 1850 Colorado Avenue – Hospice Office - Call Hospice of Emanuel at (209) 664-2550

On-on-one grief support is offered by appointment only through Hospice of Emanuel.  There is no fee.  Call (209) 664-2550 to make an appointment.

 

Cancer Support Groups

First and Third Friday of every month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Open to adult women and men who are new or recurring cancer patients, as well as those who have completed treatment.  

 

Caregiver Support Group – FREE – Emanuel Medical Plaza – 880 E. Tuolumne Avenue, Conference Room - Call (209) 664-2434

First and Third Wednesday of every month from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  This support group is to learn ways to care for one’s self and offer support to others as the caregiver.              

 

Healing Paths – Writing Through Cancer Support Group – FREE – Emanuel Medical Plaza –  880 E. Tuolumne Avenue, Conference Room – Call (209) 664-2434 to register for the next session beginning in April

Second and Fourth Tuesday of every month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Open to all who are affected by cancer.  Join in the healing process of writing and journaling through cancer.  Professional writing skills not required.

 

“Look Good…Feel Better” – FREE – Emanuel Medical Plaza – 880 E. Tuolumne Avenue, Conference Room - Call 1-800-227-2345

Third Monday of every month from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  This program teaches beauty techniques to women who are actively undergoing cancer treatment, to help them combat the appearance related side effects of radiation and chemotherapy.

A support group for kids ages 5-13 whose loved one has cancer.  This group will meet weekly for 8 weeks and coincides with a group for the parents of children in Monkey Business.
