Emanuel Medical Center Seeks Community Members to Serve on its New Patient and Family Advisory Council

Jan 31, 2018

Emanuel Medical Center is seeking volunteer community members to serve on its new Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC). The council will be instrumental in advising the hospital’s administration on ways to improve the patient experience.

“The experience of care, as perceived by patients and families, is a key factor in healthcare quality and safety,” said Sue Micheletti, CEO of Emanuel Medical Center. “We believe bringing the perspectives of patients and families directly into the planning, delivery, and evaluation of healthcare is the cornerstone for patient and family centered care. Studies increasingly show that when healthcare providers reach out to and involve patients and family members in defining quality goals, the quality and safety of healthcare rises, and provider and patient satisfaction increase.”

Council members will have the opportunity to offer advice, information and recommendations on approaches to improving the patient experience.   Their input will provide the leadership team with an enhanced understanding of how to improve quality, program development, service excellence, communications, patient safety, facility design, patient and family education, public opinion and staff orientation from the patient’s perspective.

The Emanuel Medical Center PFAC, which held its first meeting in December, will meet bi-monthly at times that are convenient for members. Members are expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings. A hospital orientation and training will be provided to familiarize participants with some basic hospital information, as we as to educate members of the key indicators that are used to measure success.

Potential members of the PFAC must be willing to:

  • Listen to differing opinions and share different points of view
  • Be positive and supportive of the mission of the hospital
  • Share insights and information about their experiences in ways that others can learn from them
  • See beyond their personal experiences
  • Show concern for more than one issue or agenda
  • Respect diversity and the perspectives of others

If you are interested in submitting an application to serve on the PFAC, please contact Lynis Chaffey @ 209-664-5670 or at [email protected].
