Emanuel Medical Center Encourages Residents to Put Heart Care First

Jan 22, 2020

February is American Heart Month

Turlock, Calif. – As we settle into the New Year and American Heart Month approaches, it’s the perfect time to set or revisit your goals for the year. Emanuel Medical Center is encouraging residents to make heart health a priority.

Emanuel is dedicated to providing patients in Turlock and surrounding areas with comprehensive cardiac care close to home. As a regional designated Heart Attack Receiving Center, the hospital strives to improve the outcomes of patients experiencing a heart attack through established, time-driven protocols.

Humberto “Rick” Turcios says he’s grateful for the care he received at Emanuel Medical Center after he suffered cardiac arrest, which is the abrupt loss of heart function in a person who may or may not have been diagnosed with heart disease.

“I thank God for my family and all you guys at the hospital because they did everything to save my life and I’m grateful for it,” Turcios expressed. “Without them, I wouldn’t be alive. May God bless every one of them.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 730,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year. The most common symptom of a heart attack for both men and women is chest pain or discomfort. However, women are more likely to have atypical symptoms. Other heart attack symptoms include, but are not limited to, tingling or discomfort in one or both arms, back, shoulder, neck or jaw, shortness of breath, cold sweat, unusual tiredness, heartburn-like feeling, nausea or vomiting, sudden dizziness and fainting.
