Emanuel Medical Center Celebrates Volunteer Month
Apr 24, 2019Turlock, Calif. – Emanuel Medical Center is proud to recognize the incredible work of its volunteers as part of National Volunteer Month.
Emanuel recognized its hospital volunteers on Tuesday, April 23, by hosting a celebration luncheon in honor of their dedication and service to the hospital. The volunteers served approximately 18,000 hours at the hospital in 2018. They provide ongoing assistance and support for patients, visitors, hospital staff and the community.
“The amount of selfless support and dedication that our family of volunteers lend to the hospital contributes greatly to our success,” said Lani Dickinson, CEO of Emanuel Medical Center. “That is why we are expressing our sincere appreciation by celebrating their amazing achievements and their passion for serving our community.”
Emanuel volunteers guide patients and visitors to rooms and appointments, assist families in the surgical waiting rooms and help nurses and staff on the patient-care floors. They have donated hundreds of thousands of hours of service to Emanuel and its patients. Many of the volunteers have been serving the hospital for more than 30 years.
The volunteers also run the Emanuel gift shop. Each year, they select a local organization to donate the proceeds earned. In 2018, they donated $10,000 to the United Samaritans Foundation, which helps combat hunger and homelessness in local communities. In 2017, the volunteers donated $10,000 to the Turlock Gospel Mission.
The volunteers at Emanuel Medical Center – who currently range in age from 18 to 93 – have been supporting the hospital, its patients and the community since 1961, raising and donating well over $1.5 million to hospital building funds, health efforts and scholarships.
“For many of our volunteers, this is why they volunteer, to be a part of something greater,” said Carrie Lemon, Volunteer Manager. “We have nearly 125 active volunteers between the hospital and Emanuel Cancer Center, and they’re all here to help our community.”
